    Objective: A mining company had been trying for a few years to reduce cost per ounce and wanted to boost the success of this initiative. For improvement to take place, cultural change towards supporting the initiative was needed, as well as the development of a more productive, stable and predictable operating environment. In addition, the client wanted to encourage workers to work to their full potential.

    Approach: We developed, designed and implemented a better system for supervisory behavior that increased the frequency with which supervisors were receiving information. A new system was designed and implemented to facilitate better communication across the different areas of operations, and fostered greater compliance with the required mining processes. New procedures were created and implemented to analyze equipment failure in greater detail.

    Results: The culture of the organization shifted so that it was more aligned with one overarching strategy. As well, cost initiatives were found to have additional significant savings available.  The team achieved a 7% productivity improvement. In addition, the client achieved a 10% improvement in equipment availability and enhanced throughput as the result of better recovery. As well, consumption of diesel was reduced and increased production plan compliance by 97%.

    Objective and Vision: The client was experiencing a change in growth and was struggling to meet customer service  standards–they rated last by an external review of providers. In order to improve, the client desperately needed to reduce time to process claims and policies and rework while increasing team productivity.

    Approach:
     The Proudfoot team developed and installed tools for aligning demand and resources. Additionally, the team implemented a process to convert overall plan into specific action steps to be taken and a reporting and review structure to quickly address problems and variances. Reengineered work processes addressed poor managed workflow and load balancing, excess rework and quality issues. Comprehensive management training drove sustainable behavior change.

    Results: The new customer service approach reduced end-to-end processing time by 38%, rework by 52%, and customer complaints by 48%. It also delivered a 30% increase in productivity.

     

    Objective: A company had recently implemented a cost reduction initiative to combat squeezed margins. However, the executive team quickly realized that the initiative couldn't deliver. The objective was to enhance the existing initiative and maximize utilization of existing resources in order to avoid additional capital expenditures.

    Approach: Proudfoot analyzed performance across multiple departments, including manufacturing, maintenance, procurement, and packaging and logistics. The team developed and implemented a system to ensure management was able to make correct and accurate decisions in a timely manner that focused on planning, scheduling and improved communication. As well, the team focused on procurement, packaging and logistics with the aim to reduce costs.

    Results:
     The client experienced a 10% productivity increase, an 80% overtime decrease and a 21% increase in overall equipment effectiveness. The company was also able to achieve price reductions between 27-46% through contract renegotiation with suppliers. Most notably, however, was the behavioral change; the employees became more aligned, benefiting the whole organization.
